At last, I’ve been waiting for this movie for so long. It’s a shame I wasn’t able to watch it on the big screen. My family and I planned on it, but something came up that we had to drop it. So, we didn’t have a choice but the wait for the DVD release and last week, I finally got a copy of my own. Hooray!
I just love those trio (Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp). I don’t care how corny or gothic their movies are, as long as I see those two actors in one screen and directed by Mr. Burton, I’m good. I’m all good. So when I first read about the movie, I got really excited.

As you probably know, Dark Shadows is based on the popular gothic soap opera back in 60’s – 70’s. Barnabas Collins (Depp), a 200 year old vampire who has been imprisoned by a witch, awakens in a different century and makes his way back to his old mansion, only to find out that it is inhabited by his dysfunctional descendants.
HEAVY SPOILERS AHEAD.
I have to say, even though I love Johnny Depp, the movie isn’t just what I expected. I mean, there’s no surprise element left (except for Carolyn’s and Victoria’s). Most of the funny scenes are already included in the trailer. It also raised some questions like, why did Carolyn went to her bedroom during the final confrontation? To transform into a werewolf? And the powerful scream of the ghost of David’s mom that finally sent Angelique to the chandeliers. The latter was really corny. LOL. But props to the graphics or animation stuff or whoever handled the statues coming back to life scene and the last scene where Angelique’s human form slowly deteriorates. It’s really good, you should see it! Oh, and my god! Eva Green’s character is so pure evil! IMO, she made the character come to life with her acting. Not to mention her sexy red dress, sexy red lips and sexy red shoes.
Overall, I’d rate the movie 4/5.
Everyone’s (including me) looking forward to a sequel of Dark Shadows, but I read on Wiki that Tim Burton doesn’t think there will be. Sad.
